1998
CALED Award of Excellence |
Economic Development Promotion Award
Since adoption of a comprehensive
economic development strategic plan in 1996, the Redevelopment
Agency has successfully implemented a variety of marketing
and promotion strategies suggested in the strategic
plan that have leveraged the community’s attributes
as well as established a positive business image. Through
a comprehensive plan of ad campaigns, direct mailing,
site selection information, trade shows, editorials,
press releases and an economic development web site,
the City has received local, regional, and even national
recognition. In its award citation, the Awards Committee
noted this program was a city-based effort, rather
than a chamber or EDC effort, that successfully communicated
a "pro-business" attitude at City Hall. In
addition, the program employed "sniper targeting" rather
than mass mailing to reach specific targets, successfully
coordinating a multitude of tools in its campaign.

CALED Award of Merit |
Development Partnership Award
The California Association for Local
Economic Development (CALED) awarded the Rancho Cucamonga
Redevelopment Agency and Lewis Homes Management Corp.
with an Award of Merit for their partnership in the
development of the RC Family Sports Center. The
RC Family Sports Center is a 34,000 square foot community
indoor sports facility.
The RC Family Sports Center is located within a portion
of a former 100,000 square foot retailer whose closing
had a negative economic impact on the shopping center
in which it was located. The Agency partnered
with Lewis Homes Management Corp. to counter the impacts
of the former tenants' closing. This project
secured the lease of a second Major anchor (Orchard's
Supply Hardware), increase patron visits, and economic
activity for the shopping center while providing a
recreational facility for the community. |
