The following are a list of hand-outs that we have available at the public counter. They are useful summaries of the City's requirements. The hand-outs are listed alphabetically and are downloadable as a portable document file (pdf).

Additions and Accessory Structures - Summarizes the requirements and restrictions applicable to additions to the main dwelling unit/house such as room additions, attached patio covers, sunrooms, etc. and accessory structures such as guest houses, detached patio covers, cabanas, pool rooms, etc. For more information, refer to Section 17.08.060(A) of the Development Code.

Barns - Summarizes the requirements and restrictions applicable to barns and similar horse-keeping buildings.

Fences/Walls - Summarizes the requirements for installing or constructing a fence or wall in residential zones. Includes maximum height limitations. For more information, refer to Section 17.08.060(K) of the Development Code.

Hillside Development Ordinance - Summarizes the requirements for developing property in the hillside areas of the City. The term "hillside" refers to any parcel of land, or definable portion thereof, with an average rise or fall of 8 percent or greater. For more information, refer to Section 17.24 of the Development Code.

Horses - Summarizes the requirements for horsekeeping in the Very Low (VL) and Low (L) Residential Districts of the City. For more information, refer to Sections 17.08.030(E)(2), 17.24.060(H) and (I), and Table 17.08.030-E of the Development Code.

Local Trails - The City has a network of trails which link parks, open spaces, schools, and residential, commercial, and industiral areas. This handout summarizes the three different types of trails in the City, including basic characteristics and allowable uses. For more information, also refer to the Trail Implementation Plan.

Neighborhood Meeting - Summarizes the requirements for conducting neighborhood meetings that are held to explain a proposed project, present drawings, and obtain input from surrounding residents and property owners living within 660 feet of a project site. These meetings are generally required for in-fill projects, or as required by the Planning Director, prior to final review and action by the Planning Department or the Planning Commission.

Roofing Information - Summarizes the requirements and restrictions applicable to roofing on your home. For more information, refer to Section 17.08.060(E) of the Development Code.

Sample Site Plan - An example of a typical Site Plan showing the information that, at a minimum, should be provided when submitting a proposal for any construction/grading on a property.

Second Dwelling Units - Summarizes the requirements and restrictions applicable to second dwelling units. These are commonly referred to as "granny flats". For more information, refer to Section 17.08.030(E)(6) of the Development Code.

Storage Structures - Summarizes the requirements and restrictions applicable to storage structures typically used to store a wide variety of items including, but not limited to, tools, gardening supplies, arts and crafts, seasonal clothes, mementos, etc.

Trees - Summarizes the requirements for removing a tree on private property. Note: Maintenance of trees in the public right-of-way (typically referred to as "street trees") is the responsibility of the CorporateYard, a division of the Engineering Department.
