Surrender of Owned PetAnimal Care & ServicesBuilding a community in which every adoptable pet finds a home. The Rancho Cucamonga Animal Care and Adoption Center accepts owner relinquishment of personal pets from Rancho Cucamonga residents by appointment. Please call (909) 466-7387 to make an appointment.
We request that you take measure to try to place your pet yourself before coming to the Animal Center. Talk to friends, relatives, co-workers, and others about your pet. Write up a nice story about your pet and why you have to give them up, and get the word out to even more people using social media such as Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, etc. Put a free ad in the Pennysaver or other such publications. Look for pet friendly housing in your current area or surrounding areas. If you are planning to relinquish your pet due to behavior issues, we offer free behavior consultations over the phone at (909) 466-7387 ext. 2076. We also recommend that you seek training from a certified professional to help curb bad pet habits.
If you are unable to place your pet in a new home using other methods, you may choose to bring your pet to the Rancho Cucamonga Animal Care and Adoption Center. Pets are accepted into the Center by prescheduled appointment only. To schedule an appointment, please contact the Animal Center prior to the date you need to surrender your pet. Our office staff will determine the next available date and ask for the following information: Owner’s first and last name, pet’s name, pet’s breed, pet’s age, and the reason for surrendering the pet. A staff member will contact you before the designated date to determine if we can help you work through any issues occurring with your pet.
At the time of surrender, the following items will be required;
- Provide a valid California Drivers License as proof of Rancho Cucamonga residency and age (must be 18 years of age or older).
- Provide proof of ownership for the pet you are relinquishing (i.e. vet records, grooming documents, licensing paperwork, microchip information, AKC paperwork, etc). The owner’s name on the proof of ownership must be the same person who is turning in the pet to ensure that the pet is being turned in with the full consent of the owner.
- Fill out the Owner Surrender Contract completely.
- Pay required fee ($40 dog, $30 cat or rabbit, $20 guinea pig, and $5 hamster/mouse/rat).
Please understand that we cannot guarantee that your pet will find a new home, and we want you to be aware that your pet will be put to sleep if we cannot place them. Our goal is to build a community in which every adoptable pet finds a home, and we make every effort to place all pets; however there are circumstances, generally for reasons of temperament or physical condition, that this is not possible. For more information, please visit www.rcpets.info, call (909) 466-7387, or come to the Animal Center located at 11780 Arrow Route in Rancho Cucamonga (during business hours).
