The safety of our community is of the upmost importance to the Rancho Cucamonga Animal Care and Services Department. Whenever there is an incident that occurs with an animal that is posing a significant threat to the safety and well being of our community members our department will step in and take action to investigate the incident and correct a problem if one exists.
If you own an animal that has bitten someone, or if you are the victim of an animal bite where the animal lives in the City of Rancho Cucamonga, you are required by law to report such incidents within 24 hours. You should report the bite to the Rancho Cucamonga Animal Care and Services Department, Field Services Division at (909) 466-7387. Press Option 1 to reach the Emergency Field Services Dispatcher. All animal bites, regardless of whether from a household pet or wild animal, should be reported to Field Services. It is important to get a description of the animal that has bitten (breed, color, size, etc) and address of the animal’s owner (if possible). If the owner is unknown, try to keep the animal in sight until a Field Services Officer arrives.
Depending on the circumstances and severity of the bite the animal could be declared potentially dangerous or vicious at which time a Field Services Officer would have to conduct an investigation and submit a report to the Senior Field Services Officer for a determination. On average, most bites would never reach this extreme, as most bites occur as provoked and accidental issues between an owner and their pet.
If you have encountered a domestic animal that has attacked and bitten your pet (off the property of the owner, in an unprovoked manner) you can call our department and we will have a Field Services Officer respond to the pet owner’s home to advise the owner of the incident and of our potentially dangerous laws.
If you have been attacked; however, not bitten, then do report the incident to our department and it will be investigated by a Field Services Officer. Depending on the circumstances of the incident would determine the officer response and the extent of our investigation.
Please note that ALL bites are of the up most importance to our department. No two bites are the same and each bite will be investigated on an individual basis. If you have any questions and concerns please contact our office as soon as possible and speak with a Field Services Officer.
